Murmansk Marine Biological Institute has long experience in training seals for the navy. Now these animals can be used for peaceful purposes – deep-water diving on the Shtokman field.

Emissions Linked to End of 2,000-Year Arctic Trend
Human-generated greenhouse gas emissions have helped reverse a 2,000-year trend of cooling in the Arctic, prompting warmer average temperatures in the past decade that now rank higher than at any time since 1 B.C., according to a study published Thursday in the online version of the journal Science.

NDP not happy with Harper’s silence on American Arctic fishing moratorium
Despite Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s recent trip to the North and the unveiling of Canada’s Arctic strategy, the NPD feels that a lot of what the Prime Minster claims, as far as defending Canada’s Arctic sovereignty goes, is all for show. Norwegian foreign minister Jonas Gahr Støre sees nothing problematic or fearful in the increased Russian military activity in the north. – There is no tension between the Norwegian and the Russian military. 15 years of Norwegian-Russian cooperation has removed all of this, says Støre .

Canada and Denmark discuss the Arctic
