Indigenous Governance in the Arctic

The purpose of this report is to survey of the main forms of governance developed and practiced among the indigenous peoples of the North American and the Russian Norths. Through an examination of governance forms, we identify key principles of Arctic1 indigenous governance. We have also considered how indigenous governance principles and practices have produced sustainable human environment relations, whether they have produced resilient social systems capable of adapting to non‐linear and rapid changes in the relevant marine or terrestrial biophysical settings, and to what extent they have been able to withstand the impacts of external pressures.
